la rose de versailles
Hello and welcome to Shoujo Sparkles! Yes, it's taken me long enough to get it done, but I decided that I was going to get it up and running at last as a 26th birthday present to myself.

The story and purpose of this site is a little hard to explain, but largely I suppose it's a place to tie together all my online stuff relating to my current ongoing obsession The Rose Of Versailles and its setting (Revolution-era France and eighteenth-century Europe in general).

It began with the creation of a fanlisting for the sadly neglected character of Rosalie, which - because I'm not keen on fanlistings which are a list of names and nothing else, the idea seems silly - slowly grew into a rather larger shrine, with screencaps and icons and fanworks. Except that after a while it began to seem silly to have to leave off the icons and drabbles and things that I produced which weren't Rosalie-based, or even directly RoV-based, so... it seemed like a good idea to provide a home for them. I had purchased shoujosparkles.net some time earlier, it seemed a perfect name for a shoujo-manga site, and so, well... here it is. (Incidentally, if you're looking for the small personal website which used to live here, it's moved to sunlesslands.net.)

(This is not, or at least not intended to be, your standard anime-manga-fansquealing page; for one thing, although the Rose of Versailles manga was the catalyst, at this point I'm at least as fascinated by the general historical period and the real-world historical figures of that era, so the site's quite likely to branch out into subjects other than Ikeda's story, beautiful though I think said story is. For another, I am, er, not really used to constructing fanshrine thingies, and had intended this place rather as a vague collection of assorted writing, notes and images connected by the series, rather than a comprehensive guide to it. However, if you're looking for a proper guide to Rose of Versailles, there are some in the links section.)

Navigation:
Info: The story of my fixation with Oscar and co., and how this odd little fangirl-place came into existence.
Sites: RoV-related subsites which are part of this one.
Links: Well... links. Other people's RoV pages.
More: Little bits of stuff which didn't quite belong anywhere else.

Site requires, ideally: CSS, millions of colours, 800x600 or greater resolution (any smaller than that and the image of Oscar ends up with no head, which I suppose has a certain irony to it), and tolerance for a deep and ongoing obsession with fiction and history.
